New 'Shropshire Sustainable Tourism Business Grant' scheme has been launched to help Shropshire tourism businesses continue to attract visitors.

The scheme, funded through Advantage West Midlands and administered by Shropshire Council, is hoped to improve the long term sustainability of the tourism industry in the county by improving the performance of tourism businesses and raising the quality of facilities. Eligible businesses will be able to apply for capital grants of up to £10,000 and revenue grants of up to £2,000.

Revenue Grants. What does this mean?

We can help you by providing a one to one consultancy service which includes the following

a review of your current marketing activity, including web presence, promotional literature, advertising campaigns and membership of promotional organisations.

Who is eligible?

  • Accommodation businesses, including pubs
  • Visitor attractions
  • Conference and meetings businesses that attract visitors to stay
  • Tourism activity providers (e.g. cycle hire, equestrian, walking)
  • Food and drink producers - where grant is to increase tourism potential
  • Craft/artisan businesses - where grant is to increase tourism potential


In addition, these businesses must have been trading for more than a year, must be within the eligible Rural Regeneration Zone area (see map in leaflet below) and/or employ fewer than 250 staff.

The second part of the grant is for Capital Grants up to £10,000 (or 35% of project cost whichever is lesser)

Eligible capital projects include:
Disabled access and facilities for visitors with special needs (but not statutory improvements)

  • Laundry facilities/drying rooms for self-catering properties
  • Wet weather and catering facilities and interpretive displays for visitor attractions
  • Upgrading accommodation to achieve a higher rating
  • Equine tourism facilities
