Virtual Farm has been created for Harper Adams University College, using a database exported from their farm office. The virual farm is now integrating all farm information on to a Google map, including fields and crops for that season
Virtual Farm makes use of many technologies. The layout is entirely done using CSS. All database interaction is done using Adobe ColdFusion MX 6.1. JavaScript is used for displaying and hiding various information, making use of script.aculo.us open source code for smooth transitions. The maps are bulit using the Google Maps API. Map polygons are plotted and colour coded from information held in an XML file which was created from shp files combined with the Virtual Farm database.
